The Shower Steamer started with a simple idea:
Self-care shouldn’t have to be complicated.
You shouldn’t need hours of spare time or an elaborate routine to do something good for yourself.

We talk a lot about making more of your everyday shower - those few minutes to breathe, reset and enjoy a moment for yourself.
But we’re also very aware of how fortunate we are to even have that opportunity.
For many people around the world, clean, safe water isn’t something they can simply turn on.
For many of us, turning on a tap or stepping into a warm shower is so normal that we barely think about it.
Elsewhere in the world, families may travel significant distances just to access water and the water available to them may not even be safe to drink.
It’s something we can so easily take for granted.
And that perspective is one of the reasons we feel a responsibility to use the growth of The Shower Steamer to create an impact beyond our own bathrooms.
We might not be able to change the world with one shower, one order or one small act.

How it works.

For every purchase, The Shower Steamer makes an automatic contribution through B1G1 that provides 30 days of access to safe drinking water.
3. The project creates change
Our contributions support a project helping rural communities in Tanzania gain reliable access to clean and safe drinking water.
4. We track it
Every day of water provided is recorded as an impact.

Giving a Community Access to Safe Drinking Water
Tanzania
Safe drinking water is not readily available in many poverty-stricken rural communities in Tanzania.
The project we’re supporting helps communities access safe water through the installation of 28–40 metre rope pumps, allowing clean water to be drawn from deeper underground sources.
The pumps make accessing water easier and less physically demanding - particularly for women and children who may otherwise carry much of the responsibility for collecting water.
Each water point also includes a concrete sanitary seal, helping protect deeper groundwater from contamination from polluted shallow water sources.
The result?
- More reliable access to clean water.
- Improved health.
- Less distance travelled to collect water.
- And local employment for the contractors who install quality water points for rural communities.
Built where it’s actually needed.
The water points aren’t simply installed wherever someone else decides they should go.
Communities contact project partner MSABI when there is a need for improved access to water.
An environmental survey is then carried out to determine the most appropriate location - helping reduce the distance people need to travel while also protecting the water source from environmental contamination.
The project operates in rural communities across the Kilombero, Ulanga, Malinyi and Kilosa Districts of Tanzania.
To date, the broader project has installed:
450+ rope pumps
43 water points rehabilitated
5 water stations with 5,000L water tanks installed
And our community is now helping that impact continue.

Not a complicated percentage.

Not something that only happens during a particular campaign.

That means every time someone chooses The Shower Steamer, another 30 impacts are added to what we’re creating together.
Giving should be transparent.
We think it’s important that you know exactly how this works.
100% of every giving contribution we make goes to the project.
There are no administration fees deducted from the donation before it reaches the project.
The Shower Steamer separately pays our own B1G1 membership subscription as a business, which covers the administration and infrastructure involved in making this giving possible.
That cost is ours.
So when we say we fund 30 days of safe drinking water when you make a purchase, the full giving contribution associated with those 30 impacts goes towards creating that impact.

When we started The Shower Steamer, it was literally from our kitchen table.
The whole idea was to create something that could make an ordinary part of someone’s day feel a little better.
A shower is such an everyday thing for most of us.
We turn on the tap and expect clean water to come out.
We can make it hot. We can stay in there a little longer. We can even turn those few minutes into a self-care ritual by adding a small tablet.
We’re incredibly fortunate to have that.
As The Shower Steamer has grown, we’ve increasingly felt that we want the business to contribute something positive beyond the products we sell and the shower moments we create.
